***INTERVIEW WITH HILARY STORM & JAKE WILSON***

1.  Question for you both - What would you say is your strongest asset is in this business?

Jake:  My tattoos
Hilary:  His tattoos.... lol.  No really it's probably my Master's in Business that helps me the most.

2. Question for Hilary-
-Do you miss your 9-5 job or do you know you are doing what you are meant to be doing?

Hilary:  Um.... who the hell works 9-5, Kel.... I worked 50-60 easy then wrote on top of that.  When I was working the day job... All I could think about was getting home to write after my evening with the kids.

3. Question for Jake-
-Did you click with Hilary right away or did your two strong personalities make it hard to get along when you first met?

Jake:  I got along with her smartass right away because she is such a big smartass just like me.

4. Question for Hilary-
-Was your family on board right away with your choice to be a Romance author or did it take some convincing and proven success at it for them to jump on board? Does Mr. Hil read your books?

Hilary:  To this day it's not fully accepted by my entire family.  The ones that matter most have been there since the first thought of it and have never stopped believing in me.  Others jumped on board after a few books came out.  Mr Hil read book one as a beta...lol... Yep I did that.  He doesn't usually read my style of hottness, but he read it.  I didn't think he went on and read anymore and the other day he said something that only a reader would know.... It surprised me that he's been reading them and I didn't know.  Thanks for the feedback honey.... Come to think of it... where the hell is his review on Amazon???

5. Question for you both-
-Will you always work together and if not, will you stay friends when you part ways as partners?

Jake:  Yes we'll be friends... Hil you answer that one.
Hilary:  He's mine ..... ALLLLLL MINE.... lol.  We have a few things up our sleeves to work together for some time.  I'm sure one day our journey will cause us to part... but I don't plan to be too far from watching his success and I'm sure he'll do the same.

6. Question for Jake-
-Did you ever see yourself as a book cover muse or even as a model? Would you have done it with anyone else or was Hilary the reason you took the plunge? Follow up to that- Is your circle outside this industry supportive of your choice?

Jake:  No absolutely not, I still don't to this day.  I don't think anyone else could have gotten me to do this.  The first time my phone blew up without her to help, I'd have been done.

7. Question for Hilary-
-What advice do you give up and coming newbies about publishing and writing in general?

Hilary:  Believe in YOU... Hard work will pay off!  Don't let the people keep you from the possibilities that may be.  I didn't.

8. Question for Jake and Hilary-
-What does 2015 hold for you both?

Jake:  Beaches and bitches.... and Australia
Hilary:  LOL... Well we have a ton of signings!  Bahamas, London, Toronto, & Australia are amongst them!  Plus I will be co-hosting Hard Rock Author event in Tulsa and Naughty Nashville next year!  I plan to write a few more books, including more in the Rebel Walking Series .... and two other series that I will release some in.

9.  Both:  First impression of each other

Jake:  I saw the fear.  As uncomfortable as I was... I knew she was too so I knew everything was gonna be ok.
Hilary:  I saw a meat head!  lol.  Thought there'd be NOOOO way that this would work out long term.  I mean after all, what the hell would we have in common?

10.  Jake.... How did you get started in the modeling business.

Jake:  Hilary got me started in the business.

11.  Jake.... Favorite thing to happen to you so far in modeling.

Jake:  Hands down holding the book that I'm on the cover of.... Second thing would be seeing the posters and calendars.

12.  Both... One characteristic that you dislike about each other....

Jake:  Her fucking terrible sense of navigation...
Hilary:  The fact that he bitches at me when I drive.... Geez sometimes a girl wants to look around the city a bit!  haha!

13.  Both...What is the one thing about this journey that you wish you could change?

Jake:  Do more research on endeavors that we were going to.
Hilary:  I say I wish we were both smarter about what we were getting in to, but I know if we were experienced enough to know better, we'd miss out on some of the craziest shit we've done!  There's really only one decision that I've made that I would go back and change.

14.  Jake did you have any idea you'd become so popular online?  How often do you get propositioned in person at these events?

Jake:  Absolutely not... Honestly I was thinking at the time if I could get 12,000 likes in a year, I'd be ecstatic.  Very few people actually have the guts to talk to me in person.  They seem to think I'm unapproachable.
Hilary:  Yeah, I'm about to put up a cam behind us to film some of these women that turn into giggly junior high girls when they come in to view.  It could be a you tube sensation!!

15.  Both:  What's the craziest thing you've been through in your travels....

Jake:  The promoter of the very first book signing I went to apparently thought I was a stripper and put me in a model show.  That was fucked up and now I don't do that shit anymore.
Hilary:  They were just hoping you were a stripper!  lol.  We've been through some crazy shit!  I'd have to say a photog that was constantly trying to get Jake to pull his pants lower!  Jake didn't for that shoot, but seeing his face in all those pics, you can tell he was pissed off.

16.  How does Jake feel about reading the sex scenes in Hilary's books?

Jake:  When I read them out loud... I get yelled at...
Hilary:  Hell yes he gets yelled at!  Do you know how crazy it is to hear the smut you wrote being read in the voice you wrote it in?  It's like bringing it to life... hell to the no do I want to hear that!  But he did stop for a second and say "Damn Hil, you did good!" ..... I know I did!

17.  Jake... Tattoos... Do you plan to get more?  Which one is the most important?

Jake:  The most important tattoo is MOM on my right arm... Do I plan to get more?  Yes I like them for the art.

18.  Y'all have been so many places together.... Is there any place you'd like to go that you haven't.

Jake:  AUSTRALIA!!!!!!!!!!!
Hilary:  He REALLY wants to go to Australia!  lol

19.  Jake.. Do you want to have kids someday?  Hilary how will you feel when Jake gets on another cover?  Jake is this something you want to do?

Jake:  I do, but I come from a family that my parents have been married for 33 years.... Until I find the right person it isn't going to happen.  As far as being on another cover.... Unless it's beneficial for us both, I wont ever do it.
Hilary:  I will be happy for him, because it will be a badass author that gets to have him on a cover.  He won't be on any that isn't consider a step up from me.  I hope before we're done, that eliminates 99% of the industry!

20.  What was it like the first time fan girls screamed at you both.. and Jake what is your favorite food?

Jake:  It was surreal... I'm just a normal guy and that does not happen at home.  Favorite food is my dad's spaghetti!
Hilary:  I thought something was wrong with the poor girls.  It actually scared me a lil!  lol

21.  Jake... What one memory would you like to bleach from your brain from this experience.

Jake:  A bad photo shoot with a perverted fucking photographer.
Hilary:  A picture that was sent from a girl that was "preparing herself" for Jake!  LOL
Oh wait, there was the one guy sending me pics for my opinion of his junk.... It was out of control and in desperate need of some loppers!  What do you say to that???  I said... Ehh ok size, but I like my guy more trimmed than that.  Eww, hair ball just thinking about it!

22.  Jake what did you think of the cover the first time you saw it?

Jake:  I was like ... Holy shit that weird pose she had me do turned out really cool!
Hilary:  Weird pose... I know what I want... Even if Furious Fotog and the model look at me crazy... they know to just do what I want and it'll be EPIC!

23.  Who inspires you both?

Jake:  Honestly... I feel like you make your own path... But I'd have to say my parents...they've shown me that hard work pays off and true love really does exist.
Hilary:  My kids inspire me to be better everyday!  I love those three more than anything and I strive to be better for them!

24.  Jake... What do friends and family think about you being on the cover of Hilary's books?

Jake:  They think its cools as shit.. My mom is an avid reader and proud as hell.  She will tell everyone about it, no matter where we are.

25.  Hilary... Does being around Jake make you want to start to work out?  And Jake does doing all of this make you push yourself harder.

Jake:  Yes.... because pictures are forever.  I want to put my best into it and represent that every time I'm at a signing or on a cover.
Hilary:  Yes it does.  He has a love for nutrition/fitness and talking with him over the past year, we've made changes in our home because of those conversations.

26.  Jake....What kind of lady intrigues you?  What is your favorite quote?  And do you like to read?  And for the boss lady... What is your favorite saying to live by?  What would be the perfect vacation?  What's the best/worst part about being famous?  And What's next for Hilary?

Jake:  I like an independent woman with self confidence, that is sexy as fuck, and not bat shit crazy.   Favorite quote is 'Yippy Kayay Motherfucker' ....and I really don't have time to read.
Hilary:  He only reads to pester the hell out of me!  Favorite saying is for sure... MAKE IT HAPPEN!  I live by that!  My perfect vaca would be an island somewhere!  I'd take the hubs and the kids and we'd relax and do what ever, whenever we wanted!  The worst part about being famous is that people are always watching everything I do.  The best part is getting to meet so many people and knowing that they've traveled to meet me!  What's next for Hilary.... well I plan to tease the hell out of all of ya!  I have so many things up my sleeve and I only wish I could write as fast as the stories come to me!  We'll be traveling and hosting a few signings!

27.  Both:  What do you do to unwind?  Hil... How do you get over writers block?

Jake:  I go to the gym and turn my headphones on and get lost in that shit.
Hilary:  I take a hot shower, and blare my music the whole time!  This is also how I get over writer's block!

28.  Jake.... What was it like growing up for you as a child?

Jake:  I had a great childhood. I was loved very much by my parents and pushed really hard in school.  I learned that if you push really hard you can do anything you want to be.

29.  Jake.. Why haven't you covered your whole torso or are you still getting inked?

Jake:  I have a picture in my mind of what I want to look like and it doesn't include me covering my stomach.

30.  Jake... What went through your mind when Hilary asked you to be her cover and what signing has been the most fun

Jake:  Honestly I didn't know what to think.. It was something that had never crossed my mind, but I'm really glad I did it.  The reason this is so important to me... my mom had a room full of books growing up... to be on the cover of a book is cool as fuck.  Favorite signing was Cleveland!

31.  Favorite memory and how have you influenced each other.

Jake:  Reading her book out loud and her freaking out... She's influenced me by reminding me that if you're willing to risk it, great things can happen.
Hilary:  That was definitely memorable!  My favorite memory was probably his face when two readers were reading an unacceptable scene to us and he whipped his head around to me and asked "Do you write that shit?"  After I quit laughing my ass off, I told him no.  Funny. As. Hell.

33.  What is the greatest compliment you've ever received?

Jake:  My parents telling me they are proud of me.
Hilary:  The smile on my kids faces when they get to tell people who their mom is.

34.  If you could go back to age 16 and give your future self one piece of advice, what would it be?

Jake:  Stay in college!
Hilary:  Love just the way you do, get ready to live life, and don't let anyone tell you that you can't.

36.  Best thing you take from the fan experience?

Jake:  I'm a normal person, its unreal to see how they react and to know that I've inspired someone.
Hilary:  I think it's how I've touched someone with my writing.  For me to be able to make the readers feel such depth and then them to come and tell me that, it's just a great feeling!

37.  Hilary.... Why is Jake so different than your other cover models?  You don't travel with the others.

Hilary:  I know Jake and I trust him completely.  I know he has my back in any circumstance and our dynamic is one that is a rare find.  Not many can put up with our smartass mouths and not get offended.  It's been proven that he's not just here for himself and he truly wants what's best for us both.  Models in the industry don't think like that.  He is rare... I'm not stupid, so that's why I take him everywhere I go!  Plus... he's in his own class... Muscles, tattoos, beard, AND a personality!  Most are a dime a dozen... Not that guy!

38.  Hilary... Has Jake ever met your kids and do they like him?

Hilary:  He met them very briefly.  My 9 year old compares his guns to my calendar often to see if he's getting closer to Jake's size!  My 16 year old shares his pics with all of her friends.  And my 14 year old (she's my avid reader) said after Jake's nerd picture that he 'finally looked cute to her"!  lol.....

39.  Hilary... What made you decide to go for it and write your first book?  What advice do you have for anyone wanting to make that leap?

Hilary:  My youngest daughter came home one day upset that some of her friends had read her story and they had told her that she would never be an author.  I told her that we don't let ANYONE tell us that we can't do something.  Then I asked her who she thought would be the last person in the world that could write a book, knowing she would say me.  I mean I worked all the time, I was an accountant and I had just started reading for fun.  She of course said me and I set out to prove to her that it could be done.  I had two goals.  Self publish and sell one copy!

40.  Jake... What's the most off the wall place a fan asked for you to sign?  Hilary.... how did you come up with the idea of the Rebel Walking Series?

Jake:  I've been asked to sign tits.
Hilary:  I decided to write the 'what if' my best friend and I would have actually gotten to go to college together.  Then I knew I wanted me (at the time) to meet a drummer!  The rest just fell into place!

41.  Hilary.... What do your daughters think of your cover models?  Do they have a favorite?

Hilary:  The oldest is proud of her mom's taste in cover models, lol.  But the youngest is just ... Ehhhh.  And that is perfectly fine with me!  Jake is the fav for all of them, because they get to see him with their mom and in pictures at events.  It seems more real to them if that makes sense.

42.  Hilary.... Has your husband ever gotten jealous of your relationship with Jake?  Is he not the slightest bit jealous of you traveling all over with him?

Hilary:  He truly hasn't gotten jealous of our relationship, not even once.  The best way for me to describe my relationship with Jake is an older sister with a younger brother.  We will pester the fuck out of each other, but if anyone else tries to, there will be hell to pay.  My husband respects Jake and vice versa!  Does he want to travel too, yes he does!  I'm starting to be able to bring the hubs as well to some of these.  The kids schedule wont allow for all of them, but it's awesome to bring him when I can!

We tried to answer most of the questions!  We had fun and I hope you enjoyed reading this interview!  Pinning him down long enough to get this done was quite fun!  Next time we should video interview... Just sayin!

“You’re not leaving… if you leave, I can’t help you. Just stay. We will have a press conference. Explain…” I jump in, cutting my mother off.

“There is nothing to explain… I didn’t do anything wrong.” My brow furrows at what she is trying to insinuate. She shrugs impassively. “Wow, you don’t even believe me.” I shake my head in disbelief.

I look to my father, who is too engrossed in his work to care what we’re discussing.

How can he just sit there ignoring us?
Her brow raises when she looks at him, then she shakes her head as though she’s thinking the same thing I am.

What did I ever do to make you want to pretend as though I don’t exist?
“I can promise you one thing… Princess.” Disdain drips from her lips when she says it.

I sit straight, my shoulders set back, to show I’m not so easily intimidated by her anymore. Although my stomach knots, telling me otherwise. “If you leave this house again, it will be your last time.” Her head tips to the side to study me. “Or… maybe it won’t…” she muses.
It will.
“What incentive do I have to stay?” My lips pucker and curl up with indignation.

There’s nothing she can do once I’m gone this time.
“I would watch your tone.” Her voice drops, making the warning into a threat, before it perks back up. “And don’t make that face, this was your father’s idea.” She nods to him. “Isn’t that right, Dear?” Her teeth clench together as a tight smile forms on her lips.

“Yes, she’s right.” He looks up at me for a split second, a strange but all too familiar look in his eyes, then goes back to working.

The look, if you’re wondering, is what normal people wear when they are guilty of something. But a man who has no care or concern for anyone but himself couldn’t possibly have anything to be guilty of. Unless in some strange twist of events he is deciding to care after years of overlooking me.
That’s highly unlikely though.

Twelve…

I was twelve when he no longer saw me, when he no longer laughed with me, and when I was left to be raised properly… like her… a woman I could never be like.

His wife and my mother…

Chapter One

Lucas leaned his elbows back on the bar and pulled in a full draught of the human pheromones and perfumes swirling in the air. Musky fragrances mixed with sweet sweat, underscored by a tangy taste of arousal. And that was just the women. The males were overly scented as well, at least the human ones, as if they didn’t understand the power of their own natural scent. The blue-neon sign outside the nightclub called it The Deviation. Inside, lithe human bodies pulsed to a techno rock beat coming from the live band on the stage. It was a ripe hunting ground for shifters and humans alike. Prey, his inner dark wolf panted, but Lucas backhanded that thought into the recesses of his mind. He may be hunting for a pleasurable companion for the evening, a temporary relief from the ghosts that haunted him, but he wasn’t that kind of predator.

Not that there weren’t plenty of those in the room.

This was neutral territory. He was rogue now, but even if he had a pack, he wouldn’t make trouble in a closed environment filled with humans like The Deviation. The throng pushed right up to the bar where he stood, leaving not much distinction between those dancing and those watching. Cutout panels behind the band let in beams of purplish light that stabbed through the tight crowd and washed everyone in a deep otherworldly glow. The shifters were indistinguishable from the humans, everyone dressed in the same tailored silk shirts and curve-hugging black dresses that comprised the nighttime uniform of web entrepreneurs and their groupies.

Indistinguishable for most. But Lucas recognized a few.

Three shifters from the SocialHacks pack were in the thick of the dancing, hands running free over their female companions. His father’s pack allied with the SocialHacks early on, their social media startup pairing well with his father’s internet business development firm. Nearby was a trio from Red Wolf, another company that cultivated the dot-com businesses of Seattle and helped match them with investors. They were his father’s bitter rivals—not only did they skate close to that invisible line shifters didn’t cross, the one that kept the normal human citizenry of Seattle unaware of the wolves in their midst, but they were as ruthless in pack matters as they were in business. Lucas had seen more than one omega from the Red pack end up in a dingy alley missing a few vital organs. Tonight, the Red pack was hanging at the fringes of the crowd, watching. Like Lucas.

But that was all they had in common.

“How are you doing here, sir?” The soft voice behind him belonged to the female bartender. He could tell by her scent before he turned around: slightly musky with the dampness of the nightclub, but with a light woodsy taste. It wasn’t a perfume, which Lucas had an instant appreciation for.

He turned and gave her a smile. “I’d like another, please. Vodka, neat.” She wasn’t one of the celebrity bartenders who drew patrons to The Deviation, but he wasn’t the type to drink the latest fad cocktail, either. In fact, he rarely was in a club long enough to finish a drink before a companion for the night found him. And having full command of his faculties, especially with a human, was key to leaving her satisfied, not sliced to ribbons.

The bartender gave him a fleeting smile, then dropped her brilliant blue-eyed gaze, brushed her long black hair out of her way, and reached under the bar for a bottle. He hadn’t been to The Deviation in a while, but he guessed she was new—to the club, maybe to bartending as well. Her all-black uniform—slim dress pants and collared shirt—had turned purple with the hazy light from the stage, but it fit her feminine curves in an understated way. He appreciated that, too, but bartenders weren’t good prospects, not least because they might remember him the next time he came hunting.

She poured his drink, and he noticed her hand quiver. The liquid sloshed but not enough to escape the shot glass. He frowned and looked up, but she was already moving on, down the bar, to another customer. She gave that guy the same fleeting smile, but Lucas could see something wrong in it now. Something off. Her lips were slightly parted, her breaths shallow. She was panting, and not in a good way. The girl rushed through a bourbon-and-seven for her customer, then shuffled to the end of the bar, where her fellow bartender, a male, stood flirting with one of the female patrons. The girl had a quick, whispered exchange that Lucas couldn’t hear over the pounding music, and then she slipped around the end of the counter and into the crowd.

Lucas straightened, looking for her over the sea of bobbing heads and waving hands. She was a tiny black-haired rabbit weaving through the weeds, tall enough to poke above them when she wasn’t ducking under drinks held high or flailing arms. He wasn’t sure why, but he couldn’t stop tracking her.

He left his drink, untouched, and slid along the bar, keeping her in his sights. She broke free of the crowd near the back wall, where blue neon signs bulged with the letters of the club and the outlines of spilt electric drinks.

It was the same wall where the three Red pack members lounged.

The girl threw open a door which had been invisible a moment before, probably because it fit seamlessly into the black matte of the wall. Then she was gone, the door slowly easing closed behind her.

The Reds had watched her all the way out.

Lucas froze at the edge of the crowd, his unblinking stare trained on their bent heads and moving lips. Not my territory, he told his snarling inner wolf. Not my pack.

But he didn’t look away.
