tag17I CAN’T CLOSE MY EYES… I refuse to. Every time I do, all I see is blood, death, and pain. I can feel it - almost taste it, bringing me back to that night.
It doesn't matter that I'm still breathing; I no longer need it, I no longer want it. I despise it along with everything else around me.
The only thing I long for is to fucking fade away. I've given up. Until her at least…

AVALON.

She comes into my world, knocking me on my ass.
It turns me on to have her around me. Makes me want to wrap my hand around her tight little throat and fuck her until she feels my pain, feels the monster in me, but also makes me want to protect her from the very thing that she should be afraid of... me.
Once she sees the damage that I’m capable of; she’ll look at me like everyone else around me does: with fear.

Avalon Knight
HIS EYES... THE DARKNESS IN them draws me to him, making me want to taste him, feel him… and save him. I shouldn't have gotten on the back of his motorcycle that day. I know that now. Colton warned me. I was told it was dangerous. I was told that nothing would be the same. He was right.
ROYAL is dangerous, dark, and seductive; the very thing that keeps me hanging on, willing to give my last breath just to touch him… breathe him in.

He’s savage, inked, and highly captivating. So different from his brother…
He's hazardous to my health, mind, and body, yet the only thing that I crave. I want to free him. I want to change his mind, but I'm afraid that he’s already too faded…

REVIEW

I had to read this the moment I saw the first teaser to the story. I've read a few Victoria Ashley titles in the past so I knew there would be a certain level of male dominance and hot sex. Nothing prepared me for Royal though. He's dark, moody, intense, totally off limits to anyone wanting more than a tattoo or a drink from his bar/tatt shop. He has seen more pain and loss than he can recover from and when he meets Avalon she changes it all for him.

Avalon dates a dorky, controlling, overbearing snob. She thinks he's safe, he's the right choice for her after a past of bad decisions in relationships. Then she goes to Jax's house with Madison and loses her way to the bathroom and finds Royal instead. Everything about him both frightens and intrigues her and she wants to know more. And then Royal kicks her out of his room and his mind. Until he runs into her again at the dork boyfriend's house during a dinner party. Once Avalon wraps herself around Royal on his bike, anything and everything else takes a backseat to being with Royal.

Reading this was an experience that will stay with me and I have already begged Vic to write more- the supporting cast of characters are just as enthralling to read about as Royal and Avalon and I need to see more with them come to life. This book definitely hit a home run for me and I give it all and every one of 5 stars. You have to read it; missing Royal is something you don't want to do. I promise.

Prologue

I CAN’T CLOSE MY EYES…. I refuse to. Every time I do, all see is blood, death, and pain. I can feel it - almost taste it.
It doesn't matter that I'm still breathing; I no longer need it, I no longer want it. I despise it along with everything else around me.
The only thing I long for is to fucking fade away and pretend as if I’m not standing here covered in blood; crimson fucking red from head to toe, with my heart pounding so viciously that my chest feels as if it’s going to burst the fuck open.

My lungs burn as I inhale another long drag from the cigarette I’ve been holding. The smoke fills my lungs, expanding them and sending a cooling sensation throughout my shaking body. I long for some kind of relief, but it fucking brings none. I take another drag anyways, waiting for what’s to come next. I know what’s coming, because I called them: red and blue flashing lights.

I stand frozen in the window, numbly watching as they grow near, the sounds of sirens getting louder with each passing second.

Taking one last drag, I toss the cigarette at the glass and turn away. I could care less if this motherfucker burns down. There’s nothing left here for me. Not anymore.

My body starts moving, mindlessly checked out and lost somewhere in this never ending nightmare of my world at its end. I feel the hatred start to build, the animosity of the night overwhelming me.

I bring my blood-covered hands up to rub my face as I growl out, releasing some of my pent up anger. I growl out until my throat feels raw, but just like the cigarette it does shit to relieve this pain that is slowly killing me.

I walk slowly and in a daze, passing three breathless bodies before I stop in front of… her. Blood covers her blonde hair and her once pink, plump lips are now ice fucking blue. I reach over to pull her into my arms, feeling my heart die a little more with each breath that she doesn’t take.

That’s when the door flies open and I hear them piling in. Heavy footsteps take over until that’s all I can hear, besides the erratic beating of my dead fucking heart.

A buzzing fills my ears, my heartbeat speeds up at an uncontrollable rate, and all I see is red as I’m yanked to my feet, two officers fighting to restrain me. I don’t care if they fucking take me away. I will rot in fucking hell for her, but I’m not done saying goodbye yet.

I feel the cuffs snap around my wrists, hard; too fucking hard. My hands may not be free, but that won’t stop me. Rotating my shoulders, I swing my head back as hard as I can, slamming it into a nose that I hear crack. That shit is broken. I know that for sure, and so does he by the way he curses and steps away to hold his bleeding nose.

Another set of hands attempt to grab me from behind as I make my way down to the ground, on my knees, burying my face into her lifeless neck. I kiss it gently for the last time, before my head is yanked backwards and I’m torn away from her. I’m pushed down to my face and a knee digs into my neck.

This is where my world ends. This is where I stop wanting to live. This is where I lose her…

Tangled Vines Excerpt © Nicole Flockton 2015

Jordan Hastings washed the shampoo out of her hair while listing all the things she needed to do that day. There was nothing more invigorating than getting up as the sun rose out of the sky to begin a brand new day.

She needed to check and make sure the new shoots were growing straight, obtaining maximum sunshine on the budding fruit stock. She also needed to make sure there was no sign of mildew on the vines. After being neglected for so long, she wasn’t expecting much from this year’s harvest. With the grapes she did manage to grow and harvest, she hoped to experiment and come up with new blends, new flavors infused into the wines.

Jordan couldn’t wait for her dad to recover from his broken leg so he could help her when it came to harvesting the grapes. Good thing she happened to be visiting him when he had his accident. She tried not to think his fall was caused by hearing about her broken engagement. Or how her former fiancĂ© had won the Golden Wine award for “Most Innovative Wine” for the wine she’d created. She tried to convince herself none of those things was the reason her father lost his balance on the ladder, fell and broke his leg. But she couldn’t help but feel responsible.

Jordan forcefully shut off the water. She wasn’t going to think about her loser ex. The only important male person in her life was her father, and she planned to keep it that way for a long time. She wasn’t going to be fooled by a handsome face again.

She shoved the shower curtain aside and screamed.

“Who the hell are you and what the hell are you doing in my house?”

“Who are you?” Jordan screeched back as she grabbed a towel and wrapped it around herself. But she didn’t need to ask the question. She knew the bare-chested man standing in front of her.

Kyle Davis in the flesh.

She never expected the first time she met him she would be standing naked in the shower. She hated surprises and her temporary boss standing in the bathroom was one hell of a surprise.

“I asked you first.” He crossed his arms over his impressively muscled chest and widened his stance.

Jordan bristled at his aggressiveness. It was either that or step forward and lay her head on his chest.

Stop it.

Could she be any more hormonal? He’d scared the crap out of her and she wanted to feel his arms around her? Was she asking for trouble? His good looks weren’t going to keep her from doing what she wanted. No man was going to stop her from pursuing her dreams anymore.

His annoyance she could deal with. If she was truthful, she supposed he had a reason for it. It was his house after all. But it wasn’t like she was trespassing. She’d cleared it with Shey to stay in the main house instead of her dad’s apartment for the time being. However, having a conversation while wearing a towel, with him looking like he wanted to explode wasn’t a priority on her current to-do list.

“What is this? High school?” she fired back, cringing at how juvenile she sounded. She couldn’t help it. The whole situation was making her uncomfortable.

He took a couple of steps toward her, blocking her exit route out of the bathroom.

“No, this is my house and instead of finding it empty, I find you.” Kyle leaned forward fractionally. Her hand reached behind her for the tiled wall to steady herself against the fire sparking out from his eyes. “So I ask again. Who are you? And what are you doing in my house?”

At least this time he asked his questions a bit more politely.

“Do you think we can have this conversation when I’m dressed?”

A small smile broke out on Kyle’s face as his eyes lazily roamed over her towel- clad form. “Now why would I do that? Seems to me this is the perfect time for a chat.”

Great, just remind the sexiest guy you’ve seen in a long time you’re naked. Way to go, Jordan.
